Client testimonials
Zainab bt Hamidi
Retired civil servant, Selangor
"I had been trying to understand my pension calculation for two years before coming to Sejahtera Counsel. The written report they produced was the first time everything had been explained to me clearly and all in one place. I did not feel rushed, and no one pushed me to take further steps. I left understanding exactly where I stood."
Pension Rights Review — April 2025
Rajan a/l Murugesan
Former employee, Kuala Lumpur
"My previous employer had not contributed properly to my EPF for almost three years. I was not sure whether anything could be done. Sejahtera Counsel was straightforward with me about what the process involved and what the realistic outcome might be. The matter took about seven months in total, and they updated me every time anything happened. It was resolved in my favour."
EPF Dispute Representation — March 2025
Nor Azizah bt Yusoff
Former teacher, Putrajaya
"After 28 years of service, I received a pension determination that seemed lower than what I had been led to expect. Ahmad Murshid reviewed the calculation and found that the commencement date had been recorded incorrectly. The appeal took roughly four months. I would not have known how to challenge it without their help."
Civil Service Pension Appeal — February 2025
Koh Lay Ling
Accountant, Petaling Jaya
"I came for a Pension Rights Review, not knowing whether I had a case or not. The report was very thorough and the fee was exactly as stated. In the end there was nothing to dispute — my calculation was correct — but I felt the review was money well spent because I now know what I am entitled to and why."
Pension Rights Review — April 2025
Faizul bin Ibrahim
Retired officer, Kuala Lumpur
"The thing I appreciated most was being told honestly at the start that the appeal might not succeed. Other people I spoke to were more optimistic, but I found the candid assessment more useful. The appeal did succeed, as it turned out — but I entered the process with clear expectations, which made the whole experience easier."
Civil Service Pension Appeal — March 2025
Siti bt Tarmuji
HR manager, Shah Alam
"I contacted Sejahtera Counsel about a discrepancy in my EPF account balance. The initial written assessment they provided helped me understand which of the discrepancies were worth pursuing and which were minor. Sharifah Nabilah handled my matter professionally throughout and I had no difficulty reaching the office when I needed to."

Case Study — EPF Non-Contribution
Seven years of missed contributions traced and recovered
The Challenge
A former sales executive discovered on reviewing his EPF statement that contributions appeared to have stopped several years before his departure from the company. The employer had since closed its Kuala Lumpur office. He was uncertain whether anything could be done at this stage or whether it was too late.
Our Approach
We obtained his full EPF transaction history and conducted a line-by-line review against his employment record. We identified the precise period of non-contribution and assessed the legal basis for recovery. A formal complaint and supporting submissions were prepared and lodged with the EPF Board. The employer's successor entity was traceable and the matter proceeded accordingly.
The Outcome
The seven-year shortfall in contributions, together with applicable interest, was credited to his account. The matter took approximately nine months from engagement to final credit. He noted that the written updates throughout the process allowed him to follow progress clearly at each stage.
"I had assumed that because the company was gone, the money was simply lost. That turned out not to be the case, but I would never have known how to proceed without the initial assessment."
Case Study — Civil Service Pension Appeal
Commencement date error in pension determination corrected on appeal
The Challenge
A retired teacher received her pension determination and noticed that the commencement date recorded was three months later than her actual retirement date. The difference in accumulated payment was RM 4,800. She had already written to the department twice without receiving a satisfactory response.
Our Approach
We reviewed her service records, the official retirement letter, and the pension determination in detail. The discrepancy was clearly documented. We prepared grounds of appeal and supporting documentation, and filed the appeal with the Service Appeals Board. The hearing required one attendance.
The Outcome
The appeal was upheld. The commencement date was corrected and the arrears of RM 4,800 were paid to her. The appeal hearing itself lasted under an hour. Total time from engagement to determination: approximately three and a half months.
"I had written to them twice on my own and received nothing useful in response. Having a lawyer draft the grounds made it clear I was serious, and the appeal was dealt with promptly."
Case Study — Pension Rights Review
Pension review identifies methodology discrepancy — client decides not to appeal
The Situation
A former government officer felt that his pension quantum was lower than expected given his years of service. He had no specific complaint in mind, but wanted to understand whether the calculation had been applied correctly before he accepted it as final.
Our Review
We conducted a Pension Rights Review, examining his full service record, the applicable scheme rules at the time of his retirement, and the calculation methodology applied. The review identified a period where the applicable pensionable salary had been applied using an older formula. However, this formula was technically correct under the scheme rules at the relevant date.
The Outcome
Having read the written report and discussed the position with us, he decided that an appeal was not warranted — the calculation, while using an older formula, had been applied correctly. He accepted the determination. He commented that having the information clearly set out allowed him to make a considered decision rather than remaining uncertain.
"Knowing that there was nothing wrong — and understanding why — was valuable in its own right. I no longer feel that I was treated unfairly, even though the outcome was not what I initially hoped."
