Why Choose Us
What working with
Sejahtera Counsel means.
Pension matters deserve proper attention. Here is what you can expect when you bring your matter to us — and why that differs from the experience many people have with general legal firms.

Six things that shape our work
Pension Law Only
We do not practise across every area of law. Pension and retirement matters are our specific domain — so our knowledge stays current and focused.
Everything in Writing
Reports, assessments, updates — all set out in plain written form. You have a record of every stage and every finding.
No Pressure to Proceed
Each service is self-contained. A review is a review — not a sales step toward representation. You decide what happens next.
Candid Outcome Views
We share our honest assessment of likely outcomes at every stage — including where we think the prospects are uncertain or limited.
Senior Attention
Every matter is handled by a qualified practitioner, not passed to a junior. You receive a considered response, not a template.
Transparent, Stated Fees
Our fees are stated clearly for each service. If scope changes, we tell you before any additional cost arises. No invoices appear without discussion first.
Depth of expertise in Malaysian pension law
The practitioners at Sejahtera Counsel have worked on pension matters across both the private and public sectors for over a decade. This means familiarity with the EPF Act, the Pension Act 1980, the administrative practice of pension bodies, and the appeal process before the Service Appeals Board — knowledge that takes years to build and is not easily replicated.
- Familiarity with EPF Board's internal processes and correspondence practices
- Experience with civil service pension appeals before the Service Appeals Board
- Knowledge of how calculation errors typically arise and how they are addressed
In Practice
"Knowing how a pension body typically responds to a given type of query — and what documentation it will require — allows us to put the right information forward at the right time, without unnecessary delay."
Our Process
"Before we do anything, we write out the scope of work and the fee — and nothing proceeds without the client's explicit written instruction. This is a matter of principle, not just process."
A process that keeps you in control
Legal matters can feel as though they acquire momentum of their own once started. We resist that tendency. Every service begins with a written engagement letter setting out the scope and cost. Further steps require your clear instruction. You are never moved along without a deliberate choice on your part.
- Written engagement letter before any work begins
- No further step without your explicit written instruction
- Scope changes are discussed and agreed before they affect the fee
Communication that is genuinely clear
A common frustration with legal services is the gap between what a lawyer knows and what a client understands. We write to clients in plain terms — explaining what has happened, what it means, and what the options are. We do not assume familiarity with legal procedure or statutory language.
- Plain-language written updates at each material stage
- Legal terms explained where they are necessary
- Responses to client questions within one working day
What This Means
"We consider it a failure of our service if a client finishes reading our update and still does not understand where their matter stands. Clear writing is part of the work, not an afterthought."
On Fees
"Our fees are stated plainly for each service on our website. We think it is discourteous to withhold that information until a meeting. A person considering legal advice deserves to know the cost before they make contact."
Fees that are stated, not concealed
We publish our fees because we believe people have the right to know what legal advice will cost before they decide to proceed. Our pricing reflects the scope of each service — a Pension Rights Review at RM 1,500, EPF dispute representation at RM 2,800, and civil service appeal conduct at RM 4,200. These figures are not introductory or conditional.
How We Compare
The difference a focused practice makes
| Aspect | General Legal Firms | Sejahtera Counsel |

| Written report at review stage | Often verbal only | Full written report included |
| Fees disclosed upfront | Often undisclosed until meeting | Published for each service |
| Review with no obligation to continue | Review typically tied to instruction | Self-contained service |
| Senior practitioner handling file | Often delegated to juniors | Qualified practitioners throughout |
| Plain-language client updates | Legal language standard | Explained at each stage |
What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive features of our practice
The Pension Rights Review as a Stand-Alone Service
Most legal firms will not offer a written rights review as an independent product. We do — because we believe people should be able to understand their position without committing to full representation.
Merits Assessment Before Representation
For dispute and appeal services, we always begin with a written assessment of the position and the realistic prospects before you commit to representation. You should know what you are entering before you proceed.
Located Near the Relevant Bodies
Our office in Menara Hap Seng places us within the legal district, close to the tribunals, boards, and government offices that our clients' matters regularly involve — which matters in practice.
One Working Day Response Standard
We respond to all client enquiries within one working day. Pension matters are often time-sensitive; being left waiting for a response adds unnecessary pressure to an already difficult situation.
